Our 1963 Ferrari 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso, chassis 5231 GT, is one of just 350 examples of Ferrari's celebrated grand tourer built between 1962 and 1964. Supplied new to the United States, it is accompanied by a Massini report confirming its original specification of Grigio Argento over Nero, a timeless colour combination that the car retains today.

Introduced at the 1962 Paris Motor Show, the Lusso represented the final and most refined development of Ferrari's legendary 250 series. Positioned between the competition-focused SWB and GTO models and Ferrari's larger touring cars, it was designed as a fast, comfortable road car capable of covering long distances with ease. Power comes from the renowned 3.0-litre Colombo V12, producing around 240bhp and driving through a four-speed manual gearbox.

Styled by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, the Lusso is widely regarded as one of the most elegant Ferraris of the period. Its long bonnet, flowing roofline and compact proportions have made it one of the most recognisable road-going Ferraris ever produced. The interior was equally advanced for its day, featuring a full-width dashboard, centrally mounted instruments and a level of comfort not often associated with Ferrari models of the era.

Chassis 5231 GT is accompanied by an extensive history file containing ownership records, maintenance invoices, restoration documentation, period paperwork and correspondence accumulated over many decades. The file provides a detailed record of the car's life and demonstrates consistent care and maintenance throughout its ownership history.

During the 1980s, the car was refinished in Rosso Corsa after being stripped and inspected, with contemporary reports noting a sound and well-preserved structure. In more recent years, following its return from the United States to the United Kingdom, the decision was taken to restore the car and return it to its original factory colour scheme.

The restoration was entrusted to respected Ferrari specialists and carried out to a high standard. Accompanying the car is a substantial collection of invoices, photographs and supporting records documenting the work undertaken. The result is a Lusso that presents exceptionally well while retaining the character and authenticity expected of a significant Ferrari from this period.

Today, the car remains Ferrari Classiche certified and retains its matching engine, gearbox and chassis. Combining its original colour combination, matching numbers status, comprehensive history file and specialist restoration, chassis 5231 GT represents an excellent example of one of the most important and desirable road-going Ferraris of the 1960s.
