Finished in its original colour combination of Nero GTS coachwork with Linen hide, Black carpets and matching top role. Being a late GT5 this example boasts a host of non-standard options which include electric windows and air conditioning as well as a Burr Walnut dashboard with matching door-card fillets. The door-card fillets are also monogram inlayed with the De Tomaso logo. All these options combine to make a refreshingly comfortable and luxurious interior for a Supercar.
Having been cherished throughout its life, examples of this pedigree and importance rarely become available. With DD Classics having sold the car 5 years ago to its last custodian, where the GT5-S formed part of one of the most significant private car collections in Europe, we are enormously thrilled to be able to offer this incredibly special car. Examples of any Pantera in even close condition are seldom ever seen, let alone the legendary GT5-S and we are so proud to present one of the finest examples of the ultimate Pantera model.
The Pantera (Italian for “Panther”) is a mid-engined sports car produced by the De Tomaso car company of Italy from 1971 to 1991. With it's mid-engined layout and burbling Ford V8 powerplant, it was arguably the successor to the Ford GT40, a road going version fitted with a tailored Italian suit. It was in 1988 that De Tomaso launched the greatest Pantera of all, the GT5-S, a great blend of phenomenal performance and vastly improved styling, produced in very low numbers. An analysis by the Pantera Owners Club of America (POCA) of the Vin numbers, suggests that 170 LHD GT5-S Pantera’s were likely to have been built out of a total production run of 187.
Our car is the vaunted GT5-S model, which has the distinctive wide-body look and blended arches. The GT5 also benefits from 18? bare aluminium polished wheels, quad exhaust pipes, rear boot-lid wing, improved braking system and a more luxurious interior. The ‘S’ in the GT5-S name stands for “steel”, the car features a single piece of flared steel fenders instead of the GT5’s riveted-on fibreglass flares, and a smaller steel front air dam. Otherwise the GT5-S was largely identical to the GT5.
