In 1967, this wonderful S3 Continental was acquired by American author Irving Wallace whose books sold over 120 million copies in his lifetime. His works included the The Chapman Report (1960) and The Prize (1962), both of which were adapted into films with the latter starring the legendary Paul Newman as its lead. The car was delivered to his house on South Bristol Avenue in Los Angeles and at this time was presented in “silver-blue.” We have managed to find two black and white photographs which show Irving Wallace with the car in 1967 on his driveway. One is a newspaper cutting with the title “THE MAN, THE PAD, THE CAR,” that mentions the S3 Bentley which “has individualised bars built into the doors,” which are proudly present today. It goes on to mention what can be found inside the house, including paintings by “Giacommetti, Bonnard, Matisse and Modigliani,” as well as “a replica of the Plaza’s Oak Bar, a videotape machine, a Japanese gardener and a maid.” The second ohotograph shows Wallace standing with his family, once again clearly showing the S3 as well as another rare Brit abroad, a Series 1 Rover P6. We were incredibly excited to discover this Hollywood chapter of the car’s history, let alone these ridiculously cool period photos to go with it.
